Apple Discontinues iBooks Author, Transitions to Pages

iBooks Author by Apple will no longer be updated, and it won’t be available to new users as of July 1, 2020. Apple encourages users to move book creation to Pages.

iBooks Author is an e-book authoring application by Apple. Books created with iBooks Author can be published to the Apple iBooks Store. Apple released iBooks Author on January 19, 2012.1 Two years ago, Apple brought book creation into its’ word processor named Pages, which is part of the iWork productivity suite and runs on the macOS, iPadOS, and iOS operating systems.2 With Apple Pages, authors, editors, and publishers can also create and collaborate on books from the Mac, iPad, iPhone, and iCloud.com. Apple has announced to extend Pages with a function to import, open, and edit iBooks Author files in Pages.3
